Another year, another Call of Duty game; that about summed up my enthusiasm going into the latest installment of this sales dominating monstrosity. It’s not that I hate Call of Duty, I’m just burned the hell out on it. I love the first 2 Modern Warfare games, World At War, and Black Ops 1 for multiple reasons. They all have strong campaigns and interesting tweaks to a multiplayer component that is already addicting.
Lately though, there isn’t much innovation or desire from the developers to do anything radically different, potentially shaking up the formula. Instead, the stories have become as increasingly mind-numbing as a Michael Bay flick, with the multiplayer receiving lazy and pointless tweaks that add zip. I don’t want to ride the hyperbole hate wagon but with each passing year it’s getting harder and harder to defend the belief that you’re not buying essentially the same game every year, just with a brand new coat of paint.
I bought Ghosts with the hopes that a new Infinity Ward development team and promises of shifting away from modern warfare would rejuvenate the stagnating colossal franchise. I hate saying it, but I think they have done more harm than good. And here are 5 points why…
